A MC is defined as digital certification of assessed knowledge, skills and competencies in a specific area or field which can be a component of an accredited programme or stand-alone courses supporting the professional, technical, academic and personal development of the learners.
No. This is similar to the various kinds of short courses (eg executive and professional development courses) offered by Higher Education Providers (HEPs) where some courses may have assessment built into it and a certificate is provided as evidence of learning upon completion.
No. MC does not have any entry requirements. However, if the learners would like to use the MC(s) acquired to gain an academic qualification, then he/she must meet the minimum entry requirements of the programme before he/she can be awarded the academic qualification.
Yes. This is akin to providers offering value-added certificates or credentials like Machine Learning, Big Data, Cisco or Microsoft certifications to enhance the employability of learners. MCs can be offered as stand-alone courses or as unbundled courses from an academic programme.
No. MC can be offered to local and international students/learners.
No. But for the learners to be awarded the academic qualification, his/her age must be a year older than the graduation age of the conventional track student. This assumes that the student completes the entire academic qualification through MCs alone. However, for exceptional cases, the Senate of HELP University may permit a learner with the lower age to graduate.
Institutions abroad which have policy on credit transfer/recognition of prior learning usually will assess the Malaysian MCs accordingly and credit transfer be awarded for courses in their academic programmes subject to their internal respective terms and conditions.
